Remember the story about the three young men in Oxford, Alabama who demonstrated kindness when they noticed an older woman sitting by herself at a restaurant and invited her to join them?
Well, that lucky woman has a name. It’s Eleanor Baker. She’s an 80-year-old widow who lives with her dog, Rufus. She has a large family, but they mostly live away. CBS News has a fantastic follow-up story with Eleanor and the three young men who have expanded her local family, Jamario Howard, JaMychol Baker, and Tae Knight.
The best takeaway from this whole story comes from Jamario Howard, the young man who approached Eleanor to join them. And they are words we should embed into every fold of our brains: “We can show the world it’s alright to be kind.”
Amen.
